Clement and Bucklins

Clement and Bucklins at Cameron iphoneMy parents and I went to visit cousins in Hathaway. They had some old photos I had never seen before. This one is from 1941 with mom and her sisters in it. My mom was not too happy to see this photo. It was at the beach and she said that she almost drowned when she went swimming and has been afraid of the water ever since. This did not stop her from teaching us to swim and to not be afraid of the water. What a good mama.

Joseph posted a better scan here.

  • Who is in the center front with hat and overalls?

  • I’m not sure who that is. The information on the back of the photo only said it was the Bucklins and Clements when the Clements came to visit. But looking at family tree and ages, he could be a Bruchhaus boy. Possibly?

  • Thanks! Makes me so curious! So is my grandmother Ruth Bucklin in it and I can’t find her. What year?

I really think the lady all the way to the right in Aunt Effie! Also wondering if that is grandpa on right behind lady in headband. (overalls and hat) Curious to know if Papa Is the one I n overalls in the center front and hat. Looks like Gunner! Grandma to me would be far back more on left under tent, with glasses.

  • The face looks like Aunt Effie, but never remember seeing her in pants.

  • Harley Bruchhaus was about the same age as my mom, and the farm boy does look close to the same size as her in the photo. And farming does seem to be in the blood!

  • Is Loris in the pic? Is the little blondie mom you think?

  • I think the one looking a bit sad was my Mom. She’s older than the little blond headed Alma. But Sylvia (with hand on hip) was the oldest. Then there is a little farm boy that Uvonne was asking about. And then there is Loris looking down. That’s my best guess. Maybe Loris Woolley will chime in with a different answer.

  • I thought the boy in overall looked like Gunner so it could be.

  • Isn’t that Grandma and Grandpa in the shade on the right…behind the fella by the stick and behind the tall fella?

  • I guess it’s possible. I’d have to see a good scan of the original photo or look at it with a magnifying glass. This is just a photo of the original taken with my iPhone.

  • Charla, Aunt Loris tends to agree. She sent an email saying she is pretty sure it was 1941 on a beach on the Gulf of Mexico. She remembers it because it was the only time they went. It was a special family trip. She thinks it is Aunt Effie too. And Aunt Dora next to her.

  • It looks like Aunt Effie to me too, but I haven’t looked at the original again. I wondered if that was Dora. Mom agrees with both.

  • I heard that she almost drowned another time also in Hathaway in a small pump pond(farm). She would come up for air and found herself laughing but at the same time, gasping for air and asking for help.
